Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Kia Ora
My name is Debra Wai Henare I am currently 17 years young, I’ve recently graduated from Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae in Mangere, South Auckland. I have just been accepted into the Unitec Institution of Technology to study a Bachelor of Architectural Studies. I come from a family of 8 children and I am the third eldest child!

Why did you choose to apply for the Keystone Study Award?

I chose to apply for the keystone study award, because being a part of big family, I thought it would be extremely hard on my parents to financially fund me throughout my tertiary years. To help my parents I tried my best to apply for this scholarship.

What excites you most about your chosen area of study?

I finally get to use my passion for art by designing buildings that will hopefully be of good use to others.

Why did you decide to take up qualifications in the property sector?

Architecture is a key contributor to the property industry, because it is the design of homes and buildings. But they aren’t just homes and buildings they are critical space of living, working and learning in. And by becoming an Architect it is my vision to ensure that the future of property develop reflects these key attributes.

What are you looking forward to the most in your study and time with Keystone?

Coming from a Māori school whom were like a second family to me, gave me more of a Whanau orientated environment. And from this excites me to become a part of another family, the Keystone Trust family. And here I hope to expand my knowledge and to gain more experience by being a part of a different atmosphere.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

In 10 years I see myself with my Bachelor of Architectural Studies degree and my Master of Architecture (Professional) degree. Also I see myself being a part of the work force and putting my degrees to good use.

One interesting fact about you?

I have completed 13years of schooling in a Māori Medium Education.
